Pre Explorer
6150 - Vintage
This rare "Pre Explorer" Rolex Precision ref 6150, went on to become the Explorer as we know it.
The word "Explorer" only appeared on the dial of this reference after May 1953 in celebration of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s successful Everest summit. Without the word, our example is not only aesthetically more restrained, but as the archetypal reference, it is as rare as it is important.
The perfect glossy black galvanised dial retains the warm gilt 3-6-9 numerals that so beautifully define the earliest Explorer model. The 36mm steel case remains in excellent condition with strong lines and almost no wear. Paired with an early (stamped 4.60) riveted bracelet that completes the watch with period-correct charm and integrity.
Powered by Rolex's (pre-chronometre) automatic calibre A296, stamped 2.53 inside the caseback, waterproof to 60m and guaranteed for two years.
