1665 - "Double Red"
To find a Double Red Sea-Dweller complete with its original box and papers is rare enough, but to find one with such a beautifully ghosted bezel, matching 12 o'clock lume pearl still intact and the most outstanding dial with warm patina is truly exceptional.
Manufactured in 1974, this rare Double Red ref. 1665 is in exceptional condition. It features a fat font ghost bezel and an attractive rich patina to the untouched MK III tritium dial and perfectly matching hands. To top things off, it's one of the few remaining "DRSD's" offered complete with its vintage Rolex box, swing tag, and perforated Rolex certificate.
One of the most important watches in the history of professional Rolex's, the Double Red Sea-Dweller was developed and tested with French Maritime company COMEX (Compagnie maritime d'expertises) as a production dive watch. It was fitted with a superdomed plexiglas, patented Helium escape valve for saturation diving; and as with all special productions, the last three digits of the serial number were also engraved inside the caseback.
Fitted to its Oyster fliplock bracelet, powered by Rolex's self-winding calibre 1570 and waterproof to 200m.
