Omega
Railmaster Vintage "2914"
Railmaster - Anti-magnetic
About this watch
In recent history, there have been less than 20 Railmaster ref. 2914 sold at auction. Collectors seem reluctant to part with this important Omega, which is nearly impossible to replace.
Launched in 1957 (only in production to 1963), as part of Omega's professional "trilogy" of tool watches (alongside the Speedmaster and Seamaster 300), the Railmaster was engineered to be resistant to magnetic fields, a pioneering feature designed for engineers and scientists. The large 38mm stainless steel case and highly legible black dial with luminous Arabic numerals exemplify its utilitarian origins and timeless design.
Omega produced the Railmaster with a slightly thicker dial; as you can see from our exceptional 2914-4, the radium lume has aged to an attractive deep tone with lighter markings on the quarter markers & moniker at 6 (exactly as it should be). Importantly, it has an innovative soft iron shell inside the steel case. This shields the hand-wound movement (cal 285) from magnetism, and was Omega's first watch to achieve a resistance to 1000 gauss. Fitted to its correct "7912" partially expanding flat-link bracelet stamped 1965, and presented with its small red vintage Omega box, and Extract from the Omega Achieve - Issued to Ireland, dated April 1960.
