Gerald Genta
Perpetual Calendar
G 3144.7 - Yellow Gold
A rare early 90's self-winding perpetual calendar from the master who shaped some of the most important watches in modern horology. Purchased from the private collection of professional racing driver Colin Hyams, and in un-polished condition.
A refined and beautifully original example from the hand of Gérald Genta. The legendary designer behind the AP Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus, this Perpetual Calendar Ref.G.3144.7 showcases the creative direction he pursued during his independent years: sculptural, modern, and mechanically ambitious.
Crafted in 18ct yellow gold, the compact 33mm case carries the smooth, architectural lines characteristic of Genta’s post-icon period, where his focus shifted from integrated bracelets to bold, round forms with strong visual balance. Beneath the distinctive faceted crystal, the precious white onyx stone dial presents an elegant interplay of texture and colour: rich textured bands deep within the stone contrast with crisp blue calendar tracks and warm gold hands.
The full perpetual calendar is displayed across four harmoniously arranged subdials; day, date, month, and leap year unified by Genta’s clear sense of proportion. At 12 o’clock, the deep blue lacquered moonphase adds a striking focal point, instantly recognisable as one of his signature design elements from this era.
Presented with its Gerald Genta Box, setting stylus and original bill of sale from Kutchinsky, the bold dernier cri of London’s mid-century jewellery style.
