Vintage Paris-signed Cartier Tanks were produced in limited numbers, and are highly prized by collectors today.

Manufactured in the 1970s, these rare "unknown" automatic Tanks were offered in two larger case sizes than the regular manual wind Tank; this Jumbo ref. 17011 and the even larger 'Jumbo XL' ref. 17002. Featuring a dependable ETA-based automatic time-only movement, and a case back designed to accommodate the self-winding rotor in a distinctive raised bubble. This design aimed to preserve the Tank's signature minimalist aesthetic.

Our 1977 18ct yellow gold example measures 25.5 x 33.5mm and retains its original white enamel dial (with hidden signature at 7) which over time has developed a unique mosaic-esque spidering patina, and features Cartier's roman numerals with chemin de fer minute track, and blued sword hands. 

The Paris signature at 6 o’clock marks it as a rare example retailed directly from Cartier’s most prestigious boutiques (Paris & London), which is also present on the caseback.
