Submariner James Bond
5508 - No Crown Guard
This vintage James Bond reference 5508 is one of the most collectible Submariners ever produced.
Year stamped “II.58” inside the caseback, this early no crown-guard reference captures the purest expression of the early Submariner design. The black dial is glossy with just a hint of spidering, defined gilt typeface, and the correct “100m = 330ft” depth rating in rich gold. The 6 o'clock radium hour marker glows brighter, an original characteristic indicating no restoration to the dial.
Produced only from 1958 to 1962, this James Bond Submariner was the last to feature a 100m depth rating and no crown guards before evolving into Rolex’s signature dive watch. We’ve seen very few Submariners of this era with dials this clean. The original fat font bezel insert has ghosted to a denim-blue hue, offering a subtle contrast to the warm gilt details.
Powered by Rolex’s automatic calibre 1530, fitted to its vintage riveted Oyster bracelet and covered by our two-year warranty.
