1158 - Niki Lauda
The legendary Carrera 1158 CHN – is considered Heuer’s rarest & most important chronograph.
Presented here in solid 18ct yellow gold with champagne dial and rarer contrasting black registers, this reference was immortalised as the watch gifted by Jack Heuer to Ferrari Formula 1 drivers. It was most famously worn by Niki Lauda during his championship years, and became synonymous with the success of the Ferrari F1 team, so much so that increasingly more drivers wanted to be seen wearing it, making it one of the most coveted vintage Heuers to date.
As the 1970s continued and the economic environment became more challenging, fewer and fewer reference 1158 models were sold, let alone versions on the bracelet. It's believed that only a couple of hundred examples existed, with only a small subset of these presented with the bracelet; finding examples in great condition is a true rarity.
The 38mm yellow gold case is paired with its original heavy Milanese gold bracelet. It houses the innovative Calibre 12 automatic chronograph movement; a key chapter in chronograph history as one of the world’s first automatic chronograph movements, jointly developed in 1969. Opening the solid caseback reveals sharp Geneva stripes and Heuer-Leonidas engravings.
The brushed champagne dial with tachymeter scale, features black sub-dials, known as the 'CHN', applied gold indexes, and a framed date aperture at 6. The signed crown, correct pushers, and crisp Heuer shield complete the unmistakable Carrera aesthetic.
