Well it was inspired by the principle of the “golden section” discovered by the ancient greeks. This 'Divine Proportion' forms the basis of some of history’s greatest works of art and architecture, and I have to admit I didn't fully appreciate the Ellipse's design in my teens, however I certainly do now.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this iconic model, Patek Philippe created this new rose gold ultra-thin grande-taille version with an ebony black sunburst dial and slender applied rose gold hour markers & hands. The slim self-winding movement has a 48hr power-reserve, and is water resistant to 30m. Our UK watch is brand new, under Patek warranty to June 2022, and complete with polished wood Patek box, instructions and certificate.
