In 1985 the Orange hand Ref 1655 was replaced by this sapphire glass 16550 model. The paint on the white dial versions started off as a pale ivory colour, which in time faded to a beautiful distinctive cream. These first edition 'rail dial' 16550's have white gold hands & settings around the luminous markings, which in 1989 Rolex changed to black, along with a non fade bright white dial. The short 3 year production run, and the captivating colour of the dial itself has made this a truly desirable model.
