Qualification for the various GT-format racing requires that the cars are fundamentally production road-legal vehicles. The Le Mans Series, for example requires that at least 100 examples of a model (25 for small manufacturers) to be produced in serial production before it can be considered for entry into the series. The competing cars have their power output harmonised across the category by adjusting the size of the air intakes, limiting the piston strokes, or modifying the vehicle mass. With this uniformity of technology, GT racing is a true distillation of driver skill.
